More BLUES GUITAR help on the way …

So now your on your way with learning a few songs on guitar, maybe had a few guitar lessons and are now getting the hang of 12 Bar Blues Guitar ?  Good. Here’s something that not many people master until later in their guitar lesson studies.

8 Bar Blues Guitar : Where the 12 Bar Blues Guitar songs had chord progressions that were based upon a common 12 measures repeated over and again, the 8 Bar Blues Guitar songs are based upon … You guessed it …. 8 measures repeated over and again.

Here’s how its laid out in Chord Theory …

I  /  V7  /  IV  / IV

I  /  V7  /  I   /  V7

So … an example of this in the Key of E major would be ….

E  /  B7  / A  /  A

E  /  B7  /  E  /  B7

One great example of 8 Bar Blues Guitar is Big Bill Broonzy’s “Key To The Highway” and it’s played in the key of A major.  There are many different kinds of ways to play 8 Bar Blues on guitar or other instruments, but most will stick to the outline sketched out above.
